乘愿再来。觉行圆满。

1.寻求真理，回归本性。

…By the end of three months Jonathan had six other students, Outcasts all, yet curious about this strange new idea of flight for the joy of flying…（……三个月后，岳纳珊又收了另外六名学生。全是被「放逐」的，但对这个「为乐趣而飞行」的新奇概念，一致充满了好奇……）

“Each of us is in truth an idea of the Great Gull, an unlimited idea of freedom,’’ Jonathan would say in the evenings on the beach, “and percision flying is a step toward expressing our real nature.Everything that limits us we have to put aside…（「其实，每只海鸥，都是『大海鸥』—一种『毫无限制的自由』实相，」傍晚时，岳纳珊会在海滩上这样说，「而『精确的飞行』，就是我们『展现真正自性』的方法，凡是侷限、阻碍我们的俗物，都要撇开……」）

2.You are how you are.（你决定自己的路。）

“Your whole body, from wingtip to wingtip,” Jonathan would say, other times, “is nothing more than your thought itself, in a form you can see.Break the chains of your thought, and you break the chains of your body, too…”（「你所见到的『身体』，从左翼梢到右翼梢，」有时岳纳珊也会如此说，「不过就是你『心』的本身。打破『心』的锁链，也就打破了『身体』的束缚了……」）

…“We are free to go where we wish and to be what we are,” Jonathan answered…（……「我们生而自由，能自主去处，自决为谁。」岳纳珊回答……）

The next night from the Flock came Kirk Maynard Gull, wobbling across the sand, dragging his left wing, to collapse at Jonathan’s feet.“Help me,” he said very quitely, speaking in the way that the dying speak.“I want to fly more than anything else in the world…”（第二天夜里，海鸥柯克．梅讷德从鸥群中，踉踉跄跄地越过沙滩，拖着不能动的左翼膀，瘫倒在岳纳珊跟前。「请帮帮我！」他以近乎垂死的声音，坚定地恳求道，「我要『学飞』！这世界上我最想做的事，就是『学习飞行』！……」）

…“Maynard Gull, you have the freedom to be yourself, your true self, here and now, and nothing can stand in your way.It is the Law of the Great Gull, the Law that Is.”（……「海鸥梅讷德，你是不受限制、自由自在的，你有权做你自己，真正的自己，就在此时此刻。没有任何东西能阻挡你！这就是『大海鸥的法则』！听清楚了，『大海鸥的法则』！」）

“Are you saying I can fly?”（「你是说，我能『飞行』？」）

“I say you are free.”（「我说，你是『自由』的！」）

3.人人本具，无法剥夺，信即能行。

As simply and as quickly as that, Kirk Maynard Gull spread his wings, effortlessly, and lifted into the dark night air.The Flock was roused from sleep by his cry, as loud as he could screem it, from five hundred feet up; “I can fly! Listen! I CAN FLY!”（就幺简单迅速地，柯克．梅讷德展开了双翼，毫不费力地窜进了漆黑的夜空。他在五百呎的高空中，欣喜若狂地竭力嘶喊：「『我飞起来了！』喂—『我可以飞囉！』」沉睡的鸥群，全被这惊天动地的叫声给吓醒了。）

By sunrise there were nearly a thousand birds standing outside the circle of students, looking curiously at Maynard.They didn’t care whether they were seen or not, and they listened, trying to understand Jonathan Seagull.（日出之前，近千只的海鸥已围着那圈学生们，惊奇地看着梅讷德。他们不在乎是否被人瞧见，只争先恐后地希望了解岳纳珊所讲的话。）

He spoke of very simple things－that it is right for a gull to fly, that freedom is the very nature of his being, that whatever stands against that freedom must be set aside, be it ritual or superstition or limitation in any form.（他讲的，其实都是些非常简单的事—「飞行」是每只海鸥的权力，「自由」则是海鸥存在的本质。凡是阻碍「追寻自由」的事物，不管是仪式、迷信，或任何形式的限制，都该摒弃！）

“Set aside,” came a voice from the multitude, “even if it be the Law of the Flock?”（「摒弃？」群众中传出一个声音，「你是说，连鸥群该遵守的『法律』，也可以置之不理吗？」）

“The only true law is that which leads to freedom,” Jonathan said.“There is no other.”（「对！唯一真正的『法律』，是『让我们得到自由的法则』，」岳纳珊答，「除此之外，别无他法！」）

“How do you expect us to fly as you fly?” came another voice.“You are special and gifted and devine, above other birds.”（「那，你怎么能期待，我们可以跟你飞得一样好呢？」又有海鸥提问了，「你是个超乎众禽之上的天才，早已出神入化了！」）

“Look at Fletcher! Lowell! Charles-Roland! Judy Lee! Are they also special and gifted and devine? No more than you are, no more than I am.The only difference, the very only one, is that they have begun to understand what they really are and have begun to practice it.”…（「是吗？请看看福莱齐儿，看看罗威尔，还有查尔斯．罗兰德、茱蒂．李等吧！他们个个是出神入化的天才吗？不，包括我在内，和在场的诸位一样，都毫无分别！唯一不同的是，我们已经开始了解自己的『本质』，并『身体力行』了！」……）

4.主流难容。

The crowd gerw larger every day, coming to question, to idolize, to scorn.（来询问、崇拜，或讥讽的鸥群，一天比一天地多了。）

“They are saying in the Flock that if you are not the Son of the Great Gull Himself,” Fletcher told Jonathan one morning after Advanced Speed Practice, “then you are a thousand years ahead of your time.”（ 一天早上，福莱齐儿在上完「进阶速训」的课后，对岳纳珊说：「他们在鸥群中耳语，如果你不是『大海鸥之子』本尊，便是超越了你的年代一千年！」）

Jonathan sighed.The price of being misunderstood, he thought.They call you devil or they call you god.“What do you think, Fletch? Are we ahead of our time?”（岳纳珊叹了口气想，被误解的代价有多大呀！一会儿被唤做「邪灵」，一会儿又被封为「圣子」。「福莱齐儿，你认为呢？我们真的有『超前』吗？」）

A long silence.“Well, this kind of flying has always been here to be learned by anybody who wanted to discover it; that’s got nothing to do with time.We’re ahead of the fashion, maybe.Ahead of the way that most gulls fly.”…（福莱齐儿完全能感受岳纳珊的无奈，沉默了好一会儿后才说：「唉！这其实跟『时间』根本无关，任何下决心想学飞的海鸥，都会成功。一定要说的话，或许只能讲，我们走在『主流』之前而已！」……）

5.圣灵无所不在，肉身不能穿岩。

It happened just a week later.Fletcher was demonstrating the elements of high-speed flying to a class of new students.He had just pulled out of his dive from seven thousand feet, a long gray streak firing a few inches above the beach, when a young bird on its first flight glided directly into his path, calling for its mother.With a tenth of second to avoid the youngster, Fletcher Lynd Seagull snapped hard to the left, at something over two hundred miles per hour, into a cliff of solid granite.（一个礼拜后，发生一了件致命的意外。福莱齐儿在新学员面前，示范「高速飞行」的重点，当他对准沙滩，从七千呎的高空疾速俯冲，像一道灰色的掠影，离地几吋之处才刚拉平时，一只嘴里喊着妈妈、初次学飞的小海鸥，不偏不倚地滑进了他的航道。千钧一发之际，为了闪避这只幼鸟，福莱齐儿以两百哩的时速奋力右弯，猛烈地撞上了一旁的花岗岩壁。）

It was, for him, as though the rock were a giant hard door into another world.A burst of fear and shock and black as he hit, and then he was adrift in a strange strange sky, forgetting, remembering, forgetting; afraid and sad and sorry, terribly sorry…（这片峭壁，对他来说，就象是一扇通往另一世界的坚硬巨门。这下子，可把他撞得满天星斗、惊骇交迸。随后，他似飘浮在一奇特、陌生的空中般，时而清醒、时而昏沈，恐惧悲伤，又难过莫名……）

“The trick, Fletcher, is that we are trying to overcome our limitations in order, patiently.We don’t tackle flying through rock until a little later in the program.”…（「福莱齐儿，诀窍是，我们必须按部就班、耐心地克服『限制』。现在，暂时还不是解决『穿岩』问题的时机。」岳纳珊告诉他……）

6.迷者众，信者稀。

“Why is it,” Jonathan puzzled, “that the hardest thing in the world is to convince a bird that he is free, and that he can prove it for himself if he’d just spend a little time practicing? Why should that be so hard?”…（「为什么呢？」岳纳珊困惑地想，「世界上最困难的事，是让一只鸟相信『自己是自由的』？事实上，他只要花一点点的时间学习，就可以『亲自证明』这项真理。为什么这件事会如此困难呢？」……）

7.宽恕与真爱。

“I don’t understand how you manage to love a mob of birds that has just tried to kill you.”（「我不懂，你怎么可能去『爱』一群刚刚还想杀你的暴民？」）

“Oh, Fletch, you don’t love that! You don’t love hatred and evil, of course.You have to practice and see the real gull, the good in every one of them, and to help them see it in themselves.That’s what I mean by love.It’s fun, when you get the knack of it.”（「噢，福莱齐儿呀，你不喜欢那样的！你当然不爱『仇恨』和『邪恶』。学着看到每只海鸥『真正的内在』，并且帮助他们发掘，他们『纯净、至善』的那一面。这才是我所谓的『真爱』呀！等你开窍了，就自然会乐在其中了。」）

8.净土自造，天堂地狱，一念之间。

“I remember a fierce young bird, for instance, Fletcher Lynd Seagull, his name.Just been made Outcast, ready to fight the Flock to the death, getting a start on building his own bitter hell out on the Far Cliffs.And here he is today building his own heaven instead, and leading the whole Flock in that direction.”（「举个例子来说吧！我记得之前有只年轻、暴躁的海鸥，名叫福莱齐儿．林德。他刚被同胞们残酷无情地驱逐时，忿恨地准备在『远巖』为自己打造座『炼狱』，好随时与那些屈待他的族人，拼个你死我活！但今天，他没有这么做，取而代之地，他建立了一个『清净美好的天堂』，且正『引领』着整个族群朝此迈进。」）

9.传承交棒。

Fletcher turned to his instructor, and there was a moment of fright in his eye.“Me leading? What do you mean, me leading? You’re the instructor here.You couldn’t leave!”（ 「『引领，我』？什么，这是什么意思？我怎么可能『引领』大家？你才是这儿的指导者，你不能丢下我们！」福莱齐儿转身望着他的教练，眼中透着惶恐。）

10.自性为导。

“Couldn’t I? Don’t you think that there might be other flocks, other Fletchers, that need an instructor more than this one, that’s on its way toward the light?”（「不能吗？难道你不曾想过，别的地方也会有同样的鸥群，也会有被放逐的『福莱齐儿』，比你们更迫切地需要一位教练，来引领他们走向『真理之光』吗？」）

“Me, Jon, I’m just a plain seagull, and you’re…” （「可是岳，我只是只平凡、卑微的海鸥呀，而你却是……」）

“…the only Son of the Great Gull, I suppose?” Jonathan sighed and looked out to sea.“You don’t need me any longer.You need to keep finding yourself, a little more each day, that real, unlimited Fletcher Seagull.He’s your instructor.You need to understand him and to pracitce him.”（「『唯一的大海鸥之子』！我想你要这么说吧？」岳纳珊叹了口气，望着大海继续说，「你再也不需要我了。你只要一天天、一点点，不断地去发现理解，并善巧运用那个『自由自在，豪无极限的自我』，就可以了。因为，『他』才是你真正永恒的『内在导师』！」）

11.般若观照，以见实相。

A moment later Jonathan’s body wavered in the air, shimmering, and began to go transparent.“Don’t let them spread silly rumors about me, or make me a god.O.k., Fletch? I’m a seagull.I like to fly, maybe…”（片刻之后，岳纳珊的身体在空中摇曳发光，渐至剔透，「小福，别让他们散布任何有关我的荒唐谣言，甚至将我『神格化』好吗？我只是只爱好『飞行』的海鸥而已，或许……」）

“JONATHAN!”（「岳纳珊！！！」）

“Poor Fletch.Don’t believe what your eyes are telling you.All they show is limitation.Look with your understanding, find out what you already know, and you’ll see the way to fly.”（「可怜的小福，千万别相信你的『肉眼』所见，因为它们全是『有限的色相』！竭用你所理解的『智慧』，发掘万物『无限的本性』，就会懂得『飞行之道』了！」）

The shimmering stopped.Jonathan Seagull had vanished into empty air…（闪光停止，岳纳珊杳然无踪……）

12.一切唯心，度尽分身。

“To begin with,” he said heavily, “ you’ve got to understand that a seagull is an unlimited idea of freedom, an image of the Great Gull, and your whole body, from wingtip to wingtip, is nothing more than your thought itself.”（「好，首先，」他缓慢沉重地介绍，「大家必须了解，每只海鸥都是『大海鸥』的应化意象，本具『毫无限制的自由』实相。你的整个身体，从左到右，不过是你『心』的本身！」）

The young gulls looked at him quizzically.Hey, man, they thought, this doesn’t sound like a rule for a loop.”（鸥群们半信半疑地看着福来齐儿，心想：「嘿，老兄，拜托喔！这不象是一条『翻觔斗』的定律吧？」）

Fletcher sighed and started over.“Hm.Ah…very well,” he said, and eyed them critically.“Let’s begin with Level Flight.” And saying that, he understood all at once that his friend had quite honestly been no more devine than Fletcher himself.（「唉！万事起头难！」福莱齐儿叹了口气，试着重新来过，「嗯，唔……非常好，」他不满地环顾了一下四周，「那，我们先从『平飞』开始好了！」此时，他终于明了了，岳纳珊没骗他，他的确跟自己一样平凡！）

No limits, Jonathan? He thought.Well, then, the time’s not distant when I’m going to appear out of thin air on your beach, and show you a thing or two about flying!（「没有限制？哈哈！好个岳纳珊！」他踌躇满志地想，「等着吧，我很快就会出现在『你的』滩头，秀两手让你瞧了！」）

And though he tried to look properly severe for his students, Fletcher Seagull suddenly saw them all as they really were, just for a moment, and he more than liked, he loved what it was he saw.No limits, Johathan? He thought, and he smiled.His race to learn had begun.（虽然，他尽量让自己看起来严厉逼人，但却忽然见到了这群学生，与自己一样纯真、宽广无限的「内在」，原来，「他们就是自己」呀！顷刻间，他发现自己对这群懵懂无知的新生，不仅「喜欢」而已，更是「深爱不已」！「没有限制，对吗，岳纳珊？」他心领神会地露出了感动的微笑。他的「觉他之旅」，自此正式展开了！）

真正的宽恕，是你我一体。生命须藉此净化，以达到永恒。
